As you know, natural disasters have caused many emergency closures of Highway 17, including the closure following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. During past closures, Santa Clara Mountain Residents were allowed to pass through road blocks after California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers inspected their driver’s licenses to determine that the drivers were indeed local residents.
Years ago, a vehicle identification sticker program for the Mountain Residents living in Santa Clara County was developed. This sticker program is designed to reduce delays at roadblocks, allowing Mountain Residents access when road conditions are determined to be safe for Mountain Resident travel.
Redwood Estates Services Association will be glad to provide a Mountain Resident sticker to residents. Please make a copy of your current vehicle registration verifying 95033 and send in along with a check payable to RESA for $4.00 per sticker. This program was originally paid for with taxpayer money and was canceled for budgetary reasons. The State Assemblyman’s office asked RESA to take on the program. We are asking for a fee to cover our costs for the sticker and the admin time it takes to respond to the requests. For walk-in requests, the RESA office is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9–2pm. Our physical address is 21450 Madrone Dr., Los Gatos, CA 95033. For mail-in requests, please send request to: RESA – Mtn Sticker Program, P.O. Box 591, Redwood Estates, CA 95044. All information collected will be destroyed. We are happy to continue this valuable program to Mountain Residents.
If you have any questions regarding this Mountain Resident Sticker Program, please contact the RESA office at 408-353-1866, or email the office at [email protected].
