Dear RESA Community,
Moody Gulch Forest Health has been added to the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaboration Forest Health Grant project. Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaboration is made up of several agencies including Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen), Santa Clara County Parks, San Jose Water Company, and the Santa Clara FireSafe Council, whose goal is to support healthier forests that are resilient to wildland fire and climate change. This project is funded by a Forest Health Grant.
This Forest Health Project will take place in Moody Gulch (wildland Urban Interface) which borders our community from highway 17 to Summit Rd). This is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of August 19, 2024. The hours of operation will be 08:00 to 16:00hrs Monday through Friday.
This project will use Hand Crews, Chippers, and Masticators. The crews are adding shaded fuel breaks and removing small diameter trees to mimic the long-suppressed natural fire regime across the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The project has three areas of prescribed treatment (42, 43, 44). See the below map.
The crews will access each quadrant area as follows:
- # 42: Highway 17 (Moody Cr. access gate).
- # 43: Rose Ct. & Laverne Dr.
- # 44: Zella Ct.
We apologize for any inconvenience these access points may cause and thank you for your understanding on this project.
